Did You Know?
Did you know there is a state law that mandates the State of Kansas to reimburse school districts at no less than 92% of their excess costs to fund Special Education? Did you also know that the state has never met that requirement? While much of the political wranglings you hear coming out of Topeka are about test scores and how much the state had exceeded their projected revenues (in the Billions of dollars), isn't it strange that no one talks about this 92%? In this chart, you can see how that impacts our district. For each of those dollars not reimbursed, we must take money from other funds to fill in the gap. That takes money from staff salaries, deferred maintenance of our facilities...the list goes on and on.
