Board President Dan Schweizer says that Mr. Nightingale emerged from a very thorough search process as the right candidate to lead the School District.  “The Board is certain in our choice of Mr. Nightingale and confident that under his leadership USD 309 will continue to be recognized as a student centered district.

Dan Schweizer Board President, explained that community input, including the involvement of stakeholders was a key factor in the success of the superintendent search process.  “The input from the community and staff as a whole was very helpful to our process.”

The Board selected two finalists, who were interviewed by the Board.

As a board team we feel we made the right selection to serve our students and our community.

USD 309 School Gating Criteria Update

May 14, 2021

USD 309 Families:

Reno County remains in the GREEN Zone for the week of 5/17/21. Keeping in line with other Reno County school districts staff & students will continue to wear masks until June 1st.  This is mostly due to HIPPA laws and knowing who have been vaccinated to enforce the new recommendations.

Recommendations from the RCHD and the Medical Collaborative regarding Covid-19 include the following mitigating measures if you have not been vaccinated: social distance by more than 6 ft., wash hands frequently, wear a mask, stay home when you are sick, and get vaccinated.   If you have been fully vaccinated the CDC and KDHE released new guidance yesterday that you no longer need to wear a mask in most indoor and outdoor locations.

Please note, the PTR and the cases have steadily increased, however, the testing rate is very low, so the New Case Count per 100,000 is what we are looking at for Gating Metrics.  Recommendations from the RCHD and the Medical Collaborative regarding Covid-19 include the following mitigating measures, social distance by more than 6 ft., wash hands frequently, wear a mask, stay home when you are sick, and get vaccinated.  If you are sick you may get tested through your provider or the Free Community Testing site.  Log on to  https://www.gogettested.com/ for more information and directions as to how to sign up.

This Week’s Data:                                                   Prior Data:

14 Day PTR – 5/10– 5.2%                         14 Day PTR - 5/3– 10.7%

14 Day New Case - 5/3– 46                       14 Day New Case - 5/3– 53

Kansas is now vaccinating individuals 12 – up, vaccines do need to be age appropriate for the individual (Pfizer 12 yrs. and up, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson is for 18 yrs. and up).  You may go to https://vaccinefinder.org/  and find locations that have the brand you are looking for.   Reno County Health Dept. is scheduling appointments and walk-ins or go online and visit the Hutchinson Clinic, Dillon’s pharmacies, Walmart or The Medicine Shoppe for availability.

Saturday, May 15, 2021 the Reno County Health Dept. will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for Covid-19 vaccinations, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna will be available.  The RCHD has ordered Pfizer vaccine and should receive doses in next week.

If you are sick you may get tested through your provider or the Free Community Testing site.  Log on to  https://www.gogettested.com/ for more information and directions as to how to sign up.

Reno County Health Department encourages students over 12 to be vaccinated, they would not be excluded from end of year activities if they were exposed to Covid-19, as we would consider them immune for 6 months after they are 2 weeks post fully vaccinated.  Please encourage parents and students to consider this option.
