  • Kansas College and Career Ready Standards (KCCRS) are a critical part of our plan to support teachers as they prepare all students for success in college and career.
  • These education standards provide a clear set of shared goals and expectations for the knowledge and skills in English language arts and mathematics that will help USD 309 students succeed.
  • Kansas has embarked on a bold endeavor to create academic standards in math and English that, once achieved, will ensure students graduating from high school are capable of successfully completing first-year college courses without remediation.
  • We have had academic standards for 23 years and these new standards are simply the next step for USD 309 in reading, writing and math standards.  After a careful review, the Kansas State Board of Education decided to adopt the new more rigorous standards, the same process that they have always used in Kansas.
  • Moving far beyond simply memorizing facts and figures, the new standards will challenge USD 309 students to develop a deeper understanding of subject matter, learn how to think critically, and apply what they are learning to the real world.
  • Teachers and administrators will decide how the standards are to be taught and will establish the curriculum, just as we have always done--allowing for continued flexibility and creativity.  Teachers will continue to create lesson plans and tailor instruction to the needs of the students in their classrooms.
